Damn! I’m Beautiful. Someone Should Probably Take A Picture of Me!

Being humble does not mean thinking you suck, have always sucked, and will continue to suck. Being humble means that you recognize your gifts and you appreciate them to such a high degree that you actually use them. You continue to refine them knowing there is always another level and a deeper understanding to be sought. Becoming a master of anything means you just practice that thing a lot more than other people.

We’re all working with what we’ve got. You got what you got and I got what I got. Do what you can. But do all that you can. For some reason when I see people and I see they’re flaws, I’ll internalize those flaws as my own. Why can’t I look at some beautiful aspect of someone and internalize that? Nope, I see flabby, I think flabby. You suck at this thing, I gotta suck at it too. You’re awesome at speaking, nah I can’t do it like you.

I’ll internalize someone’s garbage but never their great. Because in reality I’m afraid to think of myself as great.

I’m awesome! … “You’re conceited.”

This is what I was meant to do! … “You’re ok at it, but you can’t do it like she can.”

Check out some of these photos from the shoot I had! … “You’re so full of yourself.”

Those noisy responses aren’t just from assholes on the outside, but mostly from that asshole on the inside. You know, that part of you that you probably listen to more often than the other part. The part that says you suck instead of the part that believes anything is achievable. The only thing you can do in those moments of being barraged with discouraging unfounded feedback is to continue on anyway.

Not all feedback is bad and it must be shared out of love. That doesn’t mean that the feedback is going to be music to your ears. But it will help you find the next step to take. Even if that step is away from the thing you think you want. When criticism is shared to build-up and not tear-down, we have to be receptive of it. And we will know in our hearts where the criticism is coming from. Be it a place of sincerity or a place of inauthenticity.

There is so much beauty about you, it is almost unimaginable. You are unique and completely set apart from any other person to have ever lived. No matter the noise, to continue on anyway is the only thing that will quiet that noise.

What forms in the pursuit of your work is something magical called, confidence. Defined this way, “a feeling of self-assurance arising from one’s appreciation of one’s own abilities or qualities.” Confidence is magical as it causes you to both see and believe in the abilities you possess. It gives you greater nerve to stand against the winds of disbelief and discouragement. Keeping your feet firm on the ground of belief and courage.

I have the ability to create all that is within me to create… a beautiful family… beautiful relationships… beautiful tomorrows… and beautiful right nows. I can do these things I want to do. I will do these things I want to do. Support and love will follow me wherever I go. I believe this with all of my heart.
